I have a wonderful Mother who helped shape me into the person I am. I have a wonderful daughter and son, who I nurtured as they matured into fine young people. I have a terrific son-in-law and daughter-in-law who add so positively to the fiber of our family. And I am lucky to have two beautiful granddaughters who flourish in a bounty of family love.

I wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day!

So much for reaching one’s goals. A few days have slipped by me. Not to say nothing creative in my life. Sunday — a visit the the Peters Valley Craft Village to check out studios, crafts, and music. Monday — working on a new miniature quilt … picture to come soon.

Today’s plan – continue to work on the miniature project (s – yes, there are more than one), and maybe make some sense of this sewing room.

I tend to create a humongous mess when I work – how about you? You wouldn’t think I could find anything among the piles on the floor and other work surfaces. Interestingly, i know where to find each item in the pile. The biggest problem comes when it’s all cleaned up. That’s when I can never find the certain thing I’m looking for. Go figure!

How about you? Are you orderly? I admire a well-organized workspace. I go to it with the best of intentions; but alas, after some work time, things return to their planned chaos. I guess that is my comfort zone.

But most important – they were fun to make and I’m creating today!

Some things are easy! And we make them unnecessarily difficult. I’m going to try to “pay attention” or “be mindful”. That, in a way, has a sense of creativity.

For example, I frequently cannot find my glasses. My nearsighted focus is perfect for the computer, reading, sewing, and other close work. When I go looking for the specs to wear when I watch tv or go to leave the house, inevitably they are resting by the computer or near a comfy reading chair; but I do stress that maybe the glass are laying on the floor or bed waiting to be crushed by a foot or fanny. I’m going to make a great effort to pay attention to where I lay them – creating a new level of awareness. Aha! Right now they are resting next to my printer!

And, I paid attention to my goal for yesterday. Strips have been folded into flowers! Today, let’s get the sewing machine set back up (it was packed up for travel) for some quilting.

My new goal is to try to make a creativity-related post each day (at least every few days). Somehow the days get by, and I have a bunch of projects and activities which I haven’t completed or gotten too. If I set my mind to one creative post a day, at least I can have that sense of accomplishment.

Today, I’ve already created a new brochure for my quilt lectures & workshops. I “plan” to use all the left-over flower fabric strips (from my presentation at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Guild Network meeting) for my own new quilts. I’ve got an idea to combine roses and some old gloves … we’ll see

This week I visited the Heritage Quilters of the Hudson Palisades Guild and the Newton Guild. This quilt seemed to be a big hit; it’s one of my favorites! Making these wonky four-patch blocks is easy and fun. Mix them with some solid blocks and you can come up with all sorts of layout designs. Look back a few posts and you’ll see Celebrate, a mini version of the same block pattern.

I think it looks like someone threw a bunch of confetti up and this is how it landed; thus, the name of the quilt.
